In-House Design-Build Resources
In June of 1993, John S. Clark Company, LLC purchased a North Carolina Architectural and Engineering Company to create Design Inc. of North Carolina. As a wholly owned subsidiary of John S. Clark Company, this addition of Design Inc. gave John S. Clark the ability to provide clients with in-house design/build capability primarily in the area of industrial projects as well as some commercial, retail and religious projects.
Since the initial purchase and name change, Design Inc. has become licensed to provide architectural design services in the states of Virginia, South Carolina and Georgia, in addition to its home state of North Carolina.
The employees of Design Inc. of North Carolina work exclusively with John S. Clark Company and do not offer their services to third party clients.
Design Inc. exists to support John S. Clark with architectural and engineering capabilities in order to provide a value-added competitive advantage over other General Contractors, who cannot offer fully integrated multi-disciplinary design/build services with one true source of responsibility in-house, for design and construction services. The addition of Design Inc. has allowed John S. Clark to be consistently ranked as one of the Top 100 Design/Build General Contractors by ENR Magazine.
LEADERSHIP
The President of Design Inc. of North Carolina is Tony Chilton, AIA. Tony graduated from N.C. State University in 1983 with a degree in environmental design as well as a degree in architecture. Tony began work at John S. Clark as a field laborer and gained valuable “hands on” experience in how facilities are constructed from the project supervision side. Tony transferred to the drafting department and sought his professional architect license, which he received in 1988. He is licensed in North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and Georgia. Tony has combined his “in-the-field” construction experience with his architectural expertise to provide solutions to meet the performance requirements of our client’s facilities. He has a unique understanding and keen ability to help project managers and superintendents control the cost, schedule and quality concerns of our clients.
